Right of Revolution

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security." [My emphasis added.]

This powerful paragraph comes from the Declaration of Independence written in 1776 to sever the American Colonies' ties with Britain to become an autonomous nation. I suggest you read the whole document, as it is fairly short for the power it contains. The anniversary of the creation of this revolutionary document was less than one week ago, but sadly it seems that these sentiments that formed the initial foundation for our entire nation to build on have been forgotten, or even intentionally discarded, by both the citizens and the government. I want my American friends to read this document very carefully, understand it, and never forget it again: it is your inalienable right to cast off an increasingly despotic and abusive government. Not only is it your inalienable right, but it is also your duty as an United States Citizen to "alter or abolish" a government that has become destructive toward its citizens' life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The rights we can never be deprived of. You should never have to ask your government for these rights, because they should never be limited or taken away from you for any reason, ever. As it stands, our current form of government has on several occasions taken all three away. We can point clearly to United States citizens who have been denied one or more of these rights by a government who can never claim that power for any reason. And neither this document, nor any other, grants us these rights. Documents like these simply affirm that such rights already existed and always will. The government is granted its powers from us, not the other way around as most people seem to believe. There is no law that can be passed that can undermine the authority of what this founding document describes. Any law that contradicts either the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution is automatically void. Any attempt to enforce such laws is against a higher law. We have allowed the government too much power, and we have forgotten that we have the legal authority to rescind such power as we see fit.
