2022/05/02 - Cartographer Announcement
Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted in the ol' music section! I mentioned in my 14th anniversary Youtube video back in February that I had begun working on a new album of instrumental rock/metal/whatever called Cartographer. I also released two demo songs so old that they had already appeared in previous videos years ago.
Well, that's not all, babies! Right now I have 8 demos in the works, each of them at a slightly different level of "done-ness." They total to about 30 minutes of music right now, so many of them are quite unfinished. I'm planning to do between 10 and 12 songs, depending on how long they turn out to be in the end. I'd like to create a physical CD for this project, so I'd have to keep the total runtime below 80 minutes. We'll see what happens.
In terms of style, I'm planning to experiment a lot more than I have in the past in terms of different instruments, recording techniques, sound effects, and playing styles. This will be the primary challenge of this project as I've been in a particular groove for over a decade, now. Experimentation after all that requires some pretty intentional effort, but I'm sure I'll get it the way I want it eventually. It's not like I have any deadlines!
I'm still hoping for a 2022-23 release, and I think that's pretty achievable. It usually takes me about a year to make an album start-to-finish, and this one has been moving pretty quickly already.
I'm not ready to release any more teasers or demos or album art or whatever right now, but I wanted to let everyone know that progress is being made and I'm having a blast making this thing. Peace!
