Morrowind + Steam + Windows 7 = BIG HEADACHE

I've been trying desperately to get Morrowind working again on my computer, but I gave away my game discs awhile back (don't ask me why, I guess I thought my computer would never die again...but it did, so...). Anyway, I get the game on Steam only to realize that it's nearly impossible to mod that version. Now, I really want distant land and the MGE to work IT IS IMPORTANT TO ME THAT THESE THINGS FUNCTION PROPERLY. After a few hours of forum searching and installing and tweaking and all that, it finally worked! For about fifteen minutes. Then it began starting up to a black screen, and I can't get the damn thing to work anymore. Not even a little. Not even for a second.

Now I'm re-downloading the entire thing so I can start over from scratch. It is the very definition of frustration.

All I'm looking for is 1) Morrowind on my Windows 7 box, 2) the texture pack that I always use, 3) the Construction Set to work and 4) Morrowind Graphics Extender and Distant Land to work. That's it. I'm not asking for a miracle (or maybe I am). In any case, I will get back to work and see what I can manage. Any suggestions would be welcome!

*UPDATE*
Morrowind is now working and it looks better than ever! Whooo! Now I just need to figure out how to get the Construction Set back up and running...
